Ben's Page - United States Air Force

Staff Sergeant Benjamin A. Parish, Jr.

I joined the Air Force in April of 1997. I went to tech school at Port Hueneme in Oxnard, California. There I trained to be a special purpose vehicle mechanic. That means that I work on heavy equipment. Basically, Diesel and hydraulics. I was first assigned to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. I was there from October 1997 to January 2000. There I was a part of the 4th Transportation Squadron. While I was at Seymour Johnson AFB, I was promoted to Airmen First Class. I also studied, tested and became a 5 level mechanic. At SJAFB, I played golf for my squadron intramural team. Currently I am assigned to Ramstein Air Base in Germany. We moved to Germany in February of 2000. Here I am assigned to the 86th Transportation Squadron. I was promoted to the rank of Senior Airman in July of 2000. In the spring of 2001, I tested for Staff Sergeant. I found out in July that I made SSgt and put it on April 1, 2002. Spring/Summer 2000, I played soccer for my squadron intramural team. Spring 2001 I was team captain and played defender for the Ramstein Base team. I was chosen for the USAFE All Star Team at the USAFE tournament. In October of 2001, I was selected to change jobs and work in Support Element. There I support all of the shops that fall under maintenance in our Squadron. This is a big step for me and should help further my career in the Air Force. I am currently completing all requirements to be a 7 level mechanic. I enjoy what I do and am very proud to be a part of the United States Air Force.
